can't get a better hotel in Hilo

The location is excellent! Close to the airport (but no noisy planes), downtown, the bay and shoreline is right in front (get the ocean view...it is well worth waking up to), a beautiful park to enjoy. There is also a walking golf course (we didn't play but could see golfers enjoying their play) very close to the property. We found the open market on Saturday and bought lots of fresh fruits and veggies to snack on. The hotel also has a very nice brunch on Sundays. The breakfast buffet is great. The big bonus is the tide pools. My 5 year old loved exploring for fish and crabs. There are also these strange plants that close up when you gently touch them. The swimming pool was just okay...but its not crowded. There was a craft sale in the lobby with several tables of hand made items just right for gifts. We stay at the Hilo Hawaiian at least once a year. The staff is so friendly and treat you like family! If you have a problem they do their best to fix it. I have tried other places in the past but have been staying here for the past seven years. If you don't mind paying way more, there are several resort hotels on the other side of the island but it will take about two hours plus to drive to Hilo and more to the Volcano Parks.
