East Shore Bargain
Review excerpt
I stayed there three weeks ago and for the most part, it was a decent hotel. However, you can forget the conveniences of the Honolulu hotels. This is an older bare-bones, no-service hotel/motel that is in a good location for East and North shore activities. I was driving to Poipu every morning to go scuba diving and I can't really recommend this hotel for that purpose. However, if you don't mind an early commute with the traffic through Lihue, it may be the bargain that you are looking for. I really like the Poipu area so much better but you have to pay the price for it. Don't ask the staff for any help or local information, even phone numbers for nearby restaurants. I was referred to the phone book in my room. I didn't find the evening staff to be very friendly or helpful at all. There is an iron and ironing board in the laundry room next to the front desk. The parking is pretty tight but there are plenty of overflow spots in the Coconut Marketplace next door. Go to the Hula Girl restaurant, the Tradewinds Bar, and the Kintaro restaurant, each 2-3 minutes walk away. I didn't try the hotel restaurant, but there are many really good places eat nearby.
