overall.....very good hotel
We stayed at the Lilac Tree hotel the last week in August. The island was not too busy and we did get a great rate (130.00us per night) for this hotel. Many of the other hotels we checked seemed to be priced higher and after arriving on the island the Lilac Tree seemed to be one of the nicer hotels. The rooms were very clean (carpet is in need of a change) and very spacious. Our 5 year old especially enjoyed the cookies and milk delivered to the room each evening. We had no problems at the hotel or with the service. The staff was friendly. The location is great, easy walk from ferry and they deliver your luggage to hotel with no problems at all. You must bike the island...it is only 8 miles around and a very easy and beautiful ride. You can rent bikes...4.00 per hour or a tandem for 8.00 per hour...they also have the attachment for small children at 7 or 8.00 per hour. It is nice to have your own bikes so you are not thinking about time and cost, plus you will use them alot.
I would definately stay at this hotel again. We did not have a room that faced the street. Rooms are the same just the view is different. It would be nice if you don't mind the extra charge. Breakfast was included with our stay and is located at their other property , The Chippawa hotel and it is a full breakfast. The "pool" is also at the other hotel, just down the street. It is like a large jacuzzi and we did not use it. We did not use the Spa at the Lilac Tree but it looks like they offer the regular spa treatments.
