Surprised

I booked a suite for 70.00/ night at the Sahara. After reading several reviews I got very nervious about my upcoming trip. As a result, I tried unsucessfully to cancel my reservations but was inside the 72 hour cancelation time. Once checked in I was happily surprised at what I had discovered; no bed bugs, ripped carpet, dirty bathrooms or rude staff like I had read in countless reviews! I did find the two room suite located on the 27th floor to be an excellent value, however I must admit that I would not stay in a regular room at the Sahara as it appears the reviews for these rooms could be somewhat valid. The hotel is definetly older and reminded me of 70's style classic Vegas. The food the NASCAR Cafe is typical bar food and not bad. Don't be wowed by the "dollar days" as the $1 beers are miller high life and the $1 kamakazi shots come in a thimble size shot glass which you can keep. The $1 hot dog was equally as cheap and borderline gross. You would be better off to go across the street to slots of fun and spend an extra buck on their $2.00 hot dog. The monorail has a stop at the Sahara and is a nice addition which enables you to get to other hotels on the strip. While certainly not the most modern hotel on the strip, my expectations were kept in check therefore I was not disappointed.
