Here is the secret to a fun stay at the Sahara
Review excerpt
Book your room on the phone and request the Tangiers tower floor 25-27. Make sure the room has flat screens and a coffee maker so you'll be in the most recently remodeled part of the hotel.
The rooms are the only weak link -especially if you get in Tunis towers I heard they are in horrible shape.
The food is delicious at the Nascar Cafe, the Caravan Cafe and Pacos and the buffet isn't bad if you get comped. Speaking of comps they are generous and even those who are not big gamblers could earn free slot play, free cash back and comps for meals or gifts or to put toward the room.
The pool is clean and never over crowded and you can rent a raft for $10.00 for the day and a cabana too but I do not know the price for the cabana.
The monorail is right inside the casino and takes you all the way to the MGM in 10 minutes and the Stratosphere, Riviera Circus Circus and half price tix are a quick walk. Downtown is a $10-$12.00 cab ride with tip.
I took my nephew who just turned 21 and there was $1.00 Blackjack, $1.00 beer specials and $1.00 hot dogs so if you are on a budget it will be easy to find bargains.
The staff was very accomodating except for a few behind the desk- I think they take the majority of the complaints. They were generous with free drinks while gambling and had free slot tournaments and drawings daily.
I also like the fact that there was a gift shop inside with everything from suntan lotion to liquor- very convenient and not too pricey.
I have stayed at Mandalay Bay and although it was beautiful I couldn't afford to eat in their restaurants so it is your choice- economy or glamour. With the money I saved I saw a great show at the Sahara- The Platters, Coasters etc. Fantastic!
Its not the Ritz so if the dirty carpet in the lobby and elevator will bother you stay away but if you have blue collar tastes and can get into the remodeled room I think you'll really enjoy the Sahara
