We have stayed in many upscale resorts and this rates favorably in many ways. The Spa was excellent and easy to get an appointment for services. We stayed in the cottage suites and the room was outstanding with a private balcony and hot tub. Also the room was spacious and both my wife and I LOVED the bed it was incredibly comfortable. The cottages, while beautiful rooms, are away from the main lodge and the parking lot. You have to walk several hundred yards to get to your car or services the hotel offers in the main lodge. Also the service is a notch below what would be desired for such a highly rated resort. It almost seems like they are a little short staffed and resting on thewir laurels. I hope that this is only because it is the off season. Don't even think about trying to get in before 4 PM when you check in, because the room won't be done.
All in all Stein Erickson Lodge has better service and rooms but at a much higher price. We would stay here again and hope that the service issues and the remoteness of the cottages have been addressed.
