Beautiful home; Frosty Service
The South Shire Inn is a beautiful house with elegantly decorated rooms and a very pleasant Old-New-England feel to it. It has a nice library with old-fashioned furniture and complimentary sherry. Its breakfasts are very good and served by the hosts, who are very courteous.
They are also, however, very frosty. Their literature invites you to "lounge" in their library, yet when we were relaxing on them with our unshot feet up one afternoon, the host told us peremptorily that "couches are for sitting in" and that they had "people coming through". They seemed to have a much more old-world sense of propriety, and it was clear that they were privileging us with a temporary stay in THEIR inn. This atmosphere made our time in the inn very unpleasant. I'd have much preferred a place half as nice but with friendly hosts.
