They're keeping the history
Some folks complained about the lack of bathrooms and elevators, but I think that the new owners have done a nice job in keeping with the historical integrity of the place. The rooms are clean and furnished with antiques and quilted blankets. The hallways still have that cool creaky sound to remind you of the age of the building as you wander to your room. The saloon - what can I say... I think it holds the same charm and atmosphere that the hotel has enjoyed for a century and a half. The dining room is elegantly decorated and the chef dishes up some pretty terrific meals. All in all, my family visits the Gold Country to enjoy the history of California, and the Hotel Jeffery is right on the mark when they call it the Historical Hotel Jeffery - not the Hilton. We've returned and will again! Congratulations Peter & Cherylann!
