Disappointing stay at Kinnitty
Just back from 2 day stay at Kinnitty Castle, and afraid to say I was a little disappointed.. I think it was too pricey for the services and facilities you actually get. I went down with my fiancee as we were planning on holding our wedding reception there, but unfortuneatly it did not live up to what we expected. The rooms are shabby, run down, uncared for and cold. However, we both loved the Dungeon Bar, with its gothic atmosphere and candlelit room; but I don't think it was child or elderly friendly with it's uneven steps and stone floors. The castle also has no elevators, and does not appear to be wheel-chair friendly. There are numerous steps just to get up to reception which would be impossible for wheel-chair users to climb. The room we stayed in was only ok, even though it was a delux room, and did not have much facilities (including no tv, but we got over that!). The staff were friendly though and would chat away to us, which I thought was nice. The castle looks lovely at night, but looks MUCH better on the web site than in real life!! The banqueting hall, where they hold the wedding receptions is much, much smaller and narrower than you might imagine; and extemely dark, even at 2pm on a sunny day in May! The wedding co-ordinator discussed wedding packages with us, but they appear far too pricey for what you get.. Overall, it was a major let down, as we really thought that Kinnitty would be where we were going to hold our wedding. It looks amazing on the website!!
