the best 7 years ago. not anymore.
i speak from experience since i visit my hometown of iloilo every couple of years. i was very pleased with the hotel's service the last time i was in iloilo 7 years ago and this year i decided to stay there again even though my friends and family were already suggesting that the quality of the hotel degraded. i will say that the rooms of the hotel have improved greatly by having better interior and bigger TVs but cleanliness is not what it used to be. the beds were dusty and when i pulled the blanket it had dust marks and stains at the edges ( the part of the blanked usually tucked under the bed what it's fixed). i made friends with some of the people that worked at the hotel. sad to hear that they all left when management changed a couple of years ago. the servers that used to be jolly were now replaced by slow, sad looking people. food got bad also. i could cook better. i used to enjoy their 'pancit molo' and 'spanish chorizo' but they told me they don't serve them anymore. just sad. this hotel used to be ran by a spanish/filipino family, and i used to see them at the lobby restaurant everyday. i actually became friends with them since they we're very friendly. i remember they told me that they have been running the hotel for over 30 years now. i don't know what happened but they used to run hotel del rio a whole lot better than the current owners. probably retired or something. 10 years ago you could ask anyone in the city where they would like to celebrate or let their guests stay and everyone would reply pointing to hotel del rio. i guess that has not been the case for the past couple of years. it's just sad to see a prestigious and established hotel go down. well i won't be staying in hotel del rio the next time i visit.
