Something is very wrong at the Elliott House Inn
We read the reviews, liked what we saw and booked a 3 night stay. We left after only 2 days. Perhaps there's been a change in management or some serious financial difficulties at the Elliott because apart from Matthew on the front desk, they have some serious problems there.
To be specific, on the night we arrived our room was dirty (a previous guests eyemask was lying on the rug by the bed, there were pieces of paper, paper clip, ribbon and other debris on the floor). The sheets were "pilled" (they couldn't do anything about that because they are poly/cotton instead of good quality cotton) making for an uncomfortable nights sleep.
We thought it would be fun to have breakfast delivered to our room. According to the order card, I requested Sweet Sunrise - "An assortment of freshly prepared breakfast pastries accompanied by a melange of fresh fruit". What I received was a small slice of melon (uncut) and a 3" x 3" cold supermarket type pastry on a tiny plate. The next day, I decided to have the other option Smart Start, which included a fruit yoghurt. What I got was a "yumsters" Dora-the Explorer yoghurt, with an expiration date 5 days old! We also got an empty coffee pot.
What a shame - the supervisors response after the first night was very disappointing and non-existent after the second. I'm glad to be home. I just don't want anyone else to spend their hard-earned money here, expecting something special and experiencing the opposite. Find somewhere else to stay in Charleston, its a great town!
