What a Great Location!
Review excerpt
My new wife and I just returned from a 3-night stay in Room 31. We chose the Elliot House back early this year when it was the top ranked place to stay in Charleston. Our lodging price was very fair for the facilities and amenities provided. I had read a variety of reviews, and our stay pretty much met our expectations. Service during checking in was fine with visitor information available. The location is perfect for strolling up to the market or down to the battery. Parking across the street in the city garage is expensive, but convenient. You don't need to drive anywhere unless you are going out to the plantations. The one drawback to Room 31 is that it is on Queen St and the night noises of trucks and and an individual helping himself to scrap metal from a dumpster at 1:30 a.m. were a little bothersome.
After being used to the modern motel/hotel rooms, Elliott House's rooms are a little cramped, but adequate with a little creative planning. (Use the space underneath the bed for luggage.) Our A/C was noisy and took some getten-used to, but didn't bother us the second and third nights. Despite the pesky sparrows which flock to the courtyard, the breakfasts and wine and cheese in the afternoon were terrific. All in all we enjoyed our stay and plan on a return trip.
