“Worse hotel stay anywhere, ever.....
For anyone who plans to go to Mackinac Island, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT ever stay at Mission Point Resort! We arrived there on Monday 7-19-10 to find out the suite we had reserved almost two months ago was not the suite we received, nor was it handicap friendly. We were supposed to have a lake view family forest suite with a king size bed, instead we received a family forest suite with a queen bed no where near a lake view at the very END of the resort property approx a half of a mile away from where everything is i.e. dining, lobby, pool, etc., not a good place to be at when you have someone in your party who is physically handicapped and cannot walk long distances (front desk was aware of this at check-in).
Now to get to our first "suite" you had to either walk up two sets of stairs at the front of the property or walk up a steep ramp, then walk a substantial long path before getting to a nice winding steep path up the hill to get to another substantial long path before getting to the "lodge", after going up a rickety elevator you had to walk to the other end of the very long building to get to the room at the very back of the building. After getting into our "suite" we called the front desk to let them know of the situation just to be told there is nothing that can be done, that they are booked solid because of the sailboat race that was in town, so I walked down to the front desk to speak to them in person the gentleman at the desk checked the computer and said that yes there was a suite available in the main lodge, that I should go back to my suite and get everything ready and call the bell hop to have our luggage moved to the new room which he had already given me the key for, so I walk back gather everything together and get a knock on the door, it was a bellhop telling me sorry but there was a glitch in the system and there were no other rooms available!! I walk back down to the lobby just to be told sorry about that, but if you come down around 11 am the next day we can get you into the main lodge before anyone checks in at 4pm. Tuesday we arrive at the front desk before 11 am to get a new suite, I re-iterate about having a handicapped person in my party, so they put us in the main lodge, now to get to the new suite you have to walk through the main lobby, down the main lodge, to rickety old elevator that takes you up one floor, where you then walk down a long hall to your first set of stairs you must walk up just to walk down another hall to your second set of stairs to walk up then another long hall to get to the suite, this time at least the bed was correct but still no lake view!! Instead we had a view of a rock wall, walkway that anyone and everyone uses and can practically reach into your room because you have to leave your windows open because there is NO AIR CONDITIONERS only OLD box window fans and ceiling fans, our suite this time had a bonus MOLD growing in the bathroom, we brought this to the attention of the front desk and what we got to make up for it was a basket of fruit, cheese, crackers and water sent to our suite the next day and a were sorry from the desk clerk.
Now as for our suite being a real suite is quite a joke, what they consider a family forest suite is you walk into a door and there is a little vestibule with three doors to choose from, one leads to the toilet and tub/shower, the second leads to the bedroom with the two twin beds, a 19” television, a closet and a sink in it and the third leads to the room with either a queen or king bed, a 19” television, a closet and a sink in it there is NO COMMON area to spend time together in and we were lucky to have a chair to sit in, in any of the rooms.
There was supposed to be internet access in all the rooms and in our first suite we had some but very low signal, the second suite had NO signal what so ever!
