Great romantic getaway

We can't say enough positive things about this resort. We stayed for one night as a getaway from LA. We were automatically upgraded to an ocean view room on arrival and a complimentary bottle of champagne was brought up with our luggage. The view of the ocean from our room is the best we've had in California... It reminded us of Maui. We had a drink in the bar (and one of the better crabcakes we've enjoyed) that is literally at the water's edge and doesn't have a bad seat in it. The restaurant, Splashes, is first- rate and also has a great view of the ocean. Compliments to the chef for using fresh ingredients to make delicious CA cuisine without over-salting or sweetening. We planned to go to French 75, a well-liked restaurant across the street from the hotel, but decided to stay once we saw the view. The only glich we experienced was a minor problem with the hot water in the room. When we called the front desk, they offered to help AND sent a bottle of ice wine with a selection of fantastic sweet bites AND gave us a free movie rental on the TV. The wine was accompanied by a hand-written note from the front desk. The staff for the hotel and restaurant were all fantastic... always helpful and friendly but never intrusive. We give this hotel our highest recommendation!
