YOU GOTTA LOVE 'EM
My friends and I have been staying at the Montauket annually for quite a number of years. Despite the third world charm, you can NOT get a reservation (they are always totaly booked). While the conditions border on, well squallor...if you are a true beach bum - you are not focused on the accomodations inside...your focus is on the beautiful surroundings. You want the Hilton?!...then you can be in any city / anywhere on this planet - as its all the same. But his is MONTAUK...if you have been here- you know what I am referring to. If you are not getting it- you never will and the Montauket will just be the cherry on your miserable complaint filled trip. When you stay at a place like this, you need to plan ahead...(we bring sleeping bags, a small fan, some candles & lysol). The crusty ambiance is a part of the experience. They have a small private beach on the bay - where you can sip cocktails & float (we also bring our PFD's). Where else out east, can you stay for so CHEAP?! The bad things they say about the Montauket are true - but if you go with the right people...the town of Montauk itself is a hidden pearl east of the swine in the Hamptons -- that will totally suprise you. On second thought- don't come- it's horrible (this let's me & my peeps free to enjoy what we have loved since we were children without complaining vacationers). You want nice - you need to spend at least $125 a nite in Montauk. You want local flavor - Montauket is not for the faint of heart- only the strong return!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
