Review title
Club, what club?
Review excerpt
On my first trip to Mardid in June I stayed at the Emperador. When booking what appeared to be a very good hotel I upgraded to the club emperador room. Don't bother. On arriving I was shown to a shabby little room facing the elevators. The room was dark with a tiny bathroom and stank of smoke. The bathroom also conviniently had a large access hatch with a window that viewed the services shaft which contained the drain pipes. This hatch had no lock and it was shocking to think what would happen to a curious child in the room. Don't be fooled by the pictures as you won't get that quality of room. The corridor across from our room was closed off from "normal" guests and had a large brass plaque which read "CLUB EMPERADOR". Funny enough I did not have access to this mysterious corridor or for that matter to the club emperador lounge. When enquiring at the reception desk about the room I was assured it was a club room. I asked if I could pay for an expensive upgrade to the juniour sutie, I was told there was one available the follow day and I would get the call form reception for the change. The call never came and when enquiring with the same person the next day he seemed to forget how to speak english. I also had to ask to have my key card enabled for the club lounge only for it to reset the following day. Other than these problems the rest of the hotel was nice with the great rooftop terrace and pool. Other than the one jocker on reception all the other staff were excellent. Madrid is a great city and I would go back but not to this hotel.
