Hot, it was damn Hot...
Cheerfully greeted at check-in to the Travelodge in Golden B.C., the outside temperature roasted at 36ºC, nearly the human body temperature. Opening the rented room door one could feel heat and lots of it. The Carrier 6000 BTU air conditioner was not running. I started the unit operating to cool down while moving in our effects and going for supper.
Returning some 6 hours later the room cooled some but not enough for a good night sleep. House keeping should have been thoughtful enough to have it on knowing guests would be checking in later in the day. It seemed the air conditioner didn't have the capacity to compensate for the outside temperature.
On another note the outside walkway to the rooms sorely needed a cleaning. One easily see the many months of accumulated dirt and other things?? in and in the outdoor carpet - yuk... In fact many areas suffered a similar fate. For example, the outside hot tub did not beakon a welcoming sight. One would hardly use it, in my humble opinion, with mops and other cleaning material strewn about the area and not properly stored.
A modest continental breakfast is available in an undersized room with no seating. I felt fortunate to get in and out of there before anyone else came in to make it armpit crowded.
Choosing a vacation rest point using a glossy Internet description can turn into a humbling experience. Other Travelodge Hotels stand out; this one, however, does also for the wrong resons, maybe in the future with an extreme make-over will make it more habitable.
Maybe they were having just a bad few years!
