We rented three rooms, one smelled like vomit and cleaning fluid. The other two rooms were fine. We tried to get the manager to give us a different room since all of the guests had not yet arrived. We had reservations booked for 2 months in advance and told him we had been driving with 3 children and my 81 year old mother for 16 hours and just wanted to check in and get the kids fed and settled. The room in question had a large damp spot in the middle of the floor on the carpet. When my husband went to the front desk to ask for a different room; the clerk called the manager downstairs. He came down the stairs yelling, "This better be good!" in front of all the other guests in the lobby. His tone made it clear he was not going to be easy to deal with right from the beginning. After my husband told him of the problem, he insisted on walking over to the room to see for himself. My husband waited in the office. My mother and I were waiting in the room and when the manager walked in he very rudely asked, "What's the problem". I told him the room smelled and showed him the large, wet, stain on the carpet. He scoffed and said he didn't smell anything but cleaning fluid. We told him the door had been standing open for 20 minutes and it had aired out some, but when 1st opened it was overwhelmingly strong. He said he couldn't do anything about it because they were booked. He offered to give us a discount. I told him that wasn't the purpose of our complaint, we were more than willing to pay full price for a room, just not one that was damaged. The room smelled too bad to stay in (discounted or not). I asked him if every reservation had arrived and he said, no, so I asked that he give us a different room since we had arrived and were ready to check in (first come first served). Then he could have the cleaning staff work on getting the smell out of the other room before other guests arrived. He said, why should he give us preferential treatment? I told him that wasn't acceptable and he said,"then you can leave". I walked back over with him to talk to him with my husband present. I told my husband what he had said to my mother and I. My husband had been talking to the front desk clerk and was able to find out there were in fact several rooms available the manager could have put us in. He absolutely refused to do so. My husband tried very nicely to reason with the guy, but he wouldn't have anything to do with it. He was the most inconsiderate, condescending person I have ever dealt with in the hotel business. After we bantered back and forth with him, he finally stated we had to leave. He said he would try and find us other comparable accomodations. These rooms were 90.00 per night and I have never been treated so rudely by a hotel manager in my entire life. In fact, I've never complained at any hotel I've ever stayed in. We ended up getting 2 family suites at the Travelodge down the street for two nights for less than we would have paid at the Three Bears Lodge and the front desk staff there informed us that this happens all the time. Apparently this guy's reputation precedes him. They said they frequently get customers he has treated rudely. The TraveLodge bent over backwards to accomodate us and we enjoyed our stay. They even gave us free meals when they heard about our ordeal with the Three Bears Lodge. Please don't waste your time, money or effort going to this poorly run hotel. There are many other much nicer hotels in West Yellowstone to choose from, pick one of them instead.
