Best there is, period
I led a group of 24 people, most of who own Bertram 31 boats, to the Tropic Star last June. Besides fishing on our "own" boats - the TSL has the largest fleet of Bertram 31s in the world, 15 - the service, food, people, and total VIP treatment is world class. Being boat people, we got into the nitty-gritty of how they manage to run this kind of operation on the edge of a rain forest 100 miles from the nearest road.
Lotta help. 120 employees to host a max of 34 guests. And every employee, top to bottom always had a sincere smile for you. We felt right at home 5 minutes after we got to the lodge. And the fishing is just silly. We released 238 sailfish and a few marlin in 6 days of fishing. Not to mention all the inshore stuff, roosterfish, snapper, jacks, etc. The food at the lodge is spectacular, with a french guy doing the cooking. The rooms are huge and spotless. It rains a lot in the afternoons which is cool, then the sun comes out and this huge rainbow covers the sky and the mountains.
I read the report from whoever thought it was a beach resort and hated it. It is a fishing resort, and the best in the world by a very long shot.
Going back again this June with a whole bunch of Bertram 31 guys. As for value, we fish from our own boats all the time, and we can't fish 6 days on our own boats for what the lodge fee is. Each and every one of us called it the 'trip of a lifetime', and as we say in the South, "this ain't our first rodeo".
