The Stanley Shines
Review excerpt
The hotel is situated on a scenic vista surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. It is similar to Aspen in most respects minus the trust funds, debutantes and silver spoons...
Reservations are a snap with a courteous and attentive staff and check in went quickly even when crowded. The lodging is Victorian in design and feels like a B&B with vaulted ceilings. The accommodations feel modern with an old world charm and sensibility.
The Stanley is renowned for being the location inspiring Steven King to write 'The Shining'. While the film version was not shot in Colorado, the mini-series was shot on location at the hotel. In addition, the scene from 'Dumb and Dumber' when the guys pull up to their hotel was shot against the exterior.
There is a wonderful state park near by with many beautiful areas to explore and photograph. In addition, the Elk rut nearby and can be found in large herds throughout the year.
