Underwhelming hotel...... Skt on by
Review excerpt
Okay, so Hotel Skt Petri is a some-what stylish hotel....only if you are from a 1980's time warp. Our total hotel experience was remarkably underwhelming for the new millennium. We asked for their "Large Room" us$467, but truthfully it was actually quite small, and appeared to be the same size as the picture of their "Small Room"@ us$389 on their website. Only 1 chair to sit on unless you count the pleather bench at the foot of the bed. Room felt cheap Ikea minimalistic, not chic. Creaking wood floors, laminated grey head-board and a worn wood table didn't help make the polyester faux down quilt, scratchy linens and sad sack pillows feel any better. Could really use a throw rug to help muffle the creaky floor sounds or provide warmth to the cold little toesies. The bathroom tile had black mold growing around the edges of the tub and with no shower enclosure the whole contents of the bathroom became soaked if you took a shower standing in the tub. The elevator was constantly breaking down. One day the lobby was filled with a large trade show featuring bathroom fixtures in the lobby. Was glad our room was away from the center elevator atrium as the lobby acoustics are very very unforgiving. Besides the run down appearance through out the hotel they need to increase the blase staff body count and give them serious hospitality training. Sure they can muster up a polite smile if you track the down, but can they follow through? The answer is NO. The young front desk staff seems quite clueless. Our last evening we ordered a car for our very early morning drive to the airport, but ....no car in the morning. We tried to have b'fast at the ground floor Cafe Petri. It was desolate with the exception of one other customer. But all 3 of us were ignored by the staff of 2. Sure they pointed us to a chair where we could sit, but never bothered to bring a menu, a napkin or to even ask for our order. We left after 10 minutes of waiting..... but some how the B'fast charge appeared on our hotel bill. Thankfully they took it off when we checked out. Even the main dining room on the second level seemed pretty lonely. There was no drink or food service on the huge outside patio area despite all the lounging chairs, but some how lots of dirty glasses were left laying around. We ended up going next door to the lively Dalle Valle cafe for much better service and their lively street scene. Was really surprised the room price was so high for such a major disappointment. Design Hotels would do well to reconsider this addition to their stable of chic hotels. Next time it's the Nimb Hotel for me.
