Very Pleasant Stay
My wife & I stayed at the Emporio for 3-nights as part of a large convention tour. I read so many negative remarks about the hotel that I really didn't know what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Our room was a mini-suite with a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, etc. We had a dining room table and dishes and cutlery in the kitchen cupboards. Each room overlooks the bay with a balcony.
The hotel is located on the very busy Costera. So, don't stay here if you're looking for a quiet getaway. The streets around the hotel are constantly busy. However, the beach side of the hotel is quiet. At night we sat on the balcony and listened to the ocean.
We did experience a problem with a mold smell in the first room assigned to us. But, the second room was ok. We had a water leak in the room the next morning, but, maintenance took care of it immediately. We had no issues with the staff - everyone was kind, helpful and respectful. From what I could gather, the hotel was formerly the Acapulco Hilton before the Emporio Chain bought the property. So, it was probably built in the 1960's. Still they do a good job of keeping it maintained. Also, the air conditioning wasn't as cool as it could have been throughout the hotel as well as in our room. The daytime temperatures even in December are in the upper 80s to lower 90s. This is one thing that could stand improving. But, the air conditioning wasn't so inefficient that we couldn't sleep at night. The ceiling fans helped to circulate the air in the room also.
There are several restaurants and bars on the hotel grounds. There are literally scores of restaurants nearby. There is a private beach and access to the public beach, swimming pools and cabanas where you can get a soothing massage!
We had a great time and was a very pleasant ending to our Mexico experience. If we ever visit Acapulco again, I would stay there in a heartbeat!
