Review title
terrible hotel to stay in
Review excerpt
let me explain chronologically: my wife and i arrived at this hotel at twelve midnight, tired from a long day and dragging/carrying three suitcases. as we entered, nobody greeted us or offered to carry our bags at all (and it's not because the staff were already sleeping...the bellboys and reception staff just stood there, looking blankly at us). we then went to the front desk to check in and received the rudest treatment i have ever had. the reception clerk seemed irritated, like we were interrupting him and like he was doing us such a huge favor. nonetheless, i still managed to smile and thank him after he checked us in, and you know what i got in reply? a dismissive, irritated nod! and yes, none of the bellboys helped us bring our bags up to our rooms this time either.
then it was off to our room. i'm pretty well travelled, so i guess you could trust me if i say i know a ratty room when i see one. the sheets had stains, the tv looked like it was older than me and was about to fall off an even older tv stand, there were messy electrical wires everywhere (tv, lamps, etc), the window curtains were dusty, the carpeted floor was dirty, and the room and bathroom stank.
breakfast the next day: the food was ordinary. nothing special. it's like eating at an ordinary fast food or something. it was the most disappointing hotel breakfast buffet i have ever had.
you may find this review really whiny and get the impression my standards are too high. well no, my standards are not overly stringent. see, i've had my fair share of ratty rooms, rude staff and bad food before, but they were all in places that cost me less than P400 (around $8 by today's exchange rates) a night. and i didn't mind the discomfort in these usually cheap, remote hotels/inns/pension houses/dormitories because I GOT WHAT I PAID FOR. cheap rates = cheap rooms, cheap service and cheap food. absolutely fine be me. i don't mind this set-up at all. but century park was supposed to be a five-star hotel, and indeed, they were charging five-star rates. for me to have received better treatment from some of the cheaper places i've stayed before than this sorry excuse of a hotel is the basis for my advise for anyone who is considering staying here: DON'T!
