As a base for exploring Athens you can hardly do better than the Hotel Rio Athens. The hotel is within walking distance from almost everything you would want to see in the city. You are literally steps away from the National Archaeological Museum, Acropolis and the Monastiraki flee market. Also from Psiri and Gazi night life areas.
We stayed for three days and only used the metro once – to get to Acropolis. The ‘’Metaxourghio’’ metro station is about 15 metres away and has a direct connection to the airport, which is very convenient.
The hotel has all the amenities you would expect from a three star establishment. Bar, Restaurant and travel agency.
The multilingual staff were very friendly and even the breakfast was a treat.
The only downside is that the hotel is so popular with international travellers that it is often fully booked.
If we have the chance to go back to Athens we would stay at the Hotel Rio Athens again!!!
