Old place, but great folks
The historic Kelly Hotel is in the process of refurbishment. The people that run the place are great and have very strict security, which we appreciated. Built in 1925 and featuring original fixtures and elevator (which works quite well), it could use some work, but they are getting things done. It's passably clean, no bugs, and rooms are good size. Great location in downtown St. Petersburg with lots to do nearby, main bus depot across the street for those with no car, necessities and FUN in walking distance. Most of the guests are actually short-term residents, mostly working people who don't currently have the luxuries in life, but they are friendly and polite, and obviously the types that are trying to make their way in life and to a better life the RIGHT way. For a by-the-week place, it's on the A-list. The managers and staff seem to really care about the place and guests, and that makes all the difference in any situation or place. We appreciated the kindness and positive atmosphere they create at the Kelly.
