THE CATHEDRAL HOTEL IS EXCELLENT
I took the time to read all of the reviews of the Cathedral Hill Hotel before my stay there and l I can say that it was very reasonably priced. Everything was clean, the staff was very expedient and perhaps dry at moments (but still knowledgable) while others were very extreemly friendly and helpful. The carpet, walls, heating, lighting etc were all in perfect working order and it's just hard to imagine why or how anyone could complain about this place?! People that complain bitterly are usually just looking for free upgrades like more expensive rooms that they just don't want to pay for and when they don't get what they want they complain that the staff is rude. Typical. I have seen this literally a thousand times.I work at a hotel in Southern California and it sickens me that so many people are so petty as to resort to this kind of tactic as revenge for their not getting the suites or other upgraded rooms.that they thought they could get by simply complaining or by bitterly"asking for the manager". Here's what you can really expect at the Cathedral Hill Hotel. Five levels of parking with virtually the cheapest hotel parking you can find in San Francisco ANYWHERE. It's only $20.oo pr night. I did the research. There is a gift shop, hair salon, bar & grill, cafe, pool and it's only 8 or so blocks from Union square. You are also a stone's throw from any kind of restaurant you might want and the night life on Polk st one block away was all kinds of fun. Side note :People you need to know that most hotels in major cities charge for parking, internet & breakfast & San Francisco is NO EXCEPTION! For your money you will not get a better deal in terms of room size and options. Keep in mind that if you only "book on line" and never actually call the hotel that you have made the reservation with you may actually be paying more than if you just called the hotel directly. This happens ALL THE TIME. Do your homework! Once you book on line you also can't qualify for discounts on rooms or parking because you already have a pre set on line rate. Oh and if you are going to whine about getting a queen instead of a king like you requested-then perhaps you should consider the fact that in all lines of work-stock RUNS OUT. Call ahead and have your room blocked for exactly what you want instead of going on-line to book a room and then going on line to vent about it later. People-please just GROW UP. I cannot believe what I have read on here about this hotel. I work in hospitality and know that a lot of these "reviews" are written by misguided and uninformed people that are really in no way travellers. Look at what they compare it to, the Howard Johnsons by the side of the road. Yeah- Ho Jo's can give you free internet parking and breakfast because they're not dealing with a 400 room property like the Ritz Carlton, Hyatt or Holiday Inn. Anyway-this is just to be informative and not rail against the inexperienced traveller but in a way it is. It's just frustrating to see so many people with a room rate of $79.00 think they are entitled to something more than a standard room. That's just not the way it works even if you ARE staying at a 3 star hotel.
I hope that when next you make arrangements to travel that you take some of this into consideration and know that if you really want something for free the EASIEST way to get it by far is to be extreemely nice to the front desk staff and that just because on-line companies promise you 4 star rooms for cut rate prices it is also true that your reservation gets far less consideration than the people that are willing to pay for what they want. Their rooms are blocked first and all the on line reservations are considered last. Just telling it like it is people.
