Let me start by saying that the Colonial is a very pleasant hotel in a fantastic location right off the central plaza in Granada. Without a doubt, this hotel has great potential to provide a great value and a comfortable atmosphere during your stay in Granada. Unfortunately, the Colonial failed me on many different levels and I was so disappointed and annoyed that I swore to myself to only stay here as a last resort. My experiences might, however, simply the result of unfortunate circumstances.
To begin, I was assigned to a room in the very back of the hotel which lacked windows and provided me with the feeling of living in a box - not the nicest atmosphere to be in. The room was equipped with a small TV and an A/c unit, which, although very quiet, failed to really cool the room to a satisfactory level.
Upon settling for the night, I found that the hotel uses a detergent (or starch) that renders the sheets close to the comfort of sandpaper and made sleeping with any skin exposed simply impossible.
After finally having fallen asleep, I was periodically awoken by the nightguard, who walked noisily past my door about every hour. Twice, he seemed to be dragging a heavy metallic object over the tile floor. My sleep was not very restful.
To make matter worse, i was rudely awoken at 6:30 am when a crew of workes began breaking through the wall adjacent to my room with a sledgehammer.
My experience here was extremely bad and I would not return since the nice appearance and great location cannot, in my view, make up for the other unpleasantries I had to endure while staying here.
