The Bells, the bells.....
Decor was slightly eccentric and tired in some rooms but an ongoing programme of refurbishment should take care of this.My bedroom was in need of a makeover but was warm and clean with a breathtaking view.
Food quality was good but the service was rather hit-and-miss. However, the occasional site of Ferdinand - owner/manager - lifted the spirit and rejuvenated patience!
Before I arrived I was dreading the bell-ringing festival, an annual event performed nightly through the streets of the town, growing in volume and number until New Year's Eve when the whole town stays up all night, partying. The reality was very different from the demented sleeplessness I had anticipated. The sound was solemn, rhythmical and drew me in. Also,I was stocked with ear plugs and it was nowhere near as loud as I had feared.
I am already looking forward to returning.
