Real Aloha Spirit
Twenty seven years ago I had stayed at the Dolphin Bay Hotel as a young traveler. I have never forgotten the wonderful quaint place in the Hilo neighborhood and the friendly owners. Flash forward to Nov 2005 my husband I are in Hilo without reservations and I am driving around trying to see if I could find the Dolphin Bay Inn, relying on this old memory. As fate would have it I saw a small sign on a chainlink fence pointing the way to the Dolphin Bay. They had a room available and escorted us to the clean room with a kitchenette and showed us where the coffee and sweet rolls would be in the morning. We were also invited to have a papaya from the fruit bowl. Very homelike and comfortable.
The night we stayed the wild sounds of the rain forest were overwhelming. I felt like I was listening to a recording...but it was real. The room got a bit hot at night, but that was our only complaint. The next morning John Alexander helped us plan our days trip with a great map he provided. I hope my next trip will be very soon...I know where we will stay in Hilo...the Dohphin Bay Hotel!
