My Place of Choice!
As you drive around the neighborhood, you admire the tree canopied streets, the amazing gardens of what seem to be stately residences restored to preserve their authenticity, history, and beauty. There is a mild buzz of bicyclists, walkers, and some occasional car traffic. As you identify the Rathbone Mansion, you are misguided in thinking it small and perhaps unattended, but reassured by its quaintness and then, by a bright smiling man hollering from across the street to get your attention as he comes from the sister inn. He runs both places, is dressed casual, chats personally and gregariously with any willing guest and then leaves your alone. Your accomodations are yours; the mansion feels as if it's your home. We've stayed here twice; the rooms are suites with always more than enough accomodations: kitchette, fireplace, sofa bed, 2nd bedroom, leather couch, tv, and my favorite: windows from floor to ceiling that open to a balcony overlooking the neighborhood. An amazing place to sit and enjoy a glass of chardonnay. The Rathbone is a short walk to downtown, but worth the walk as you admire the historic buildings, gardens, and architecture. They have grills for cooking and partying outside, an outside pool and a hot tub.I have no interest in looking for another place to stay when I visit New Orleans.
