Absolute Disappointment in a Lovely Setting

Our stay at the Ahwahnee was a complete disappointment after arriving with high hopes. The hotel was overbooked when we arrived (even though we arrived at 2:00pm for a Sunday-Tuesday stay off-season that we had reserved well in advance for a view-side room). The front desk was not at all apologetic and tried to get us to stay at another hotel, which we did not want to do since we had picked the Ahwahnee to celebrate a special occasion. The room we were given after a few more hours of waiting was small, dingy and overlooked the garbage depot. The food in the dining room was average and overpriced and the service was poor. We did, however, enjoy eating on their veranda, where you can take in the view and the fresh air, before taking a walk out back. The Ahwahnee itself is an architectural gem in an absolutely breathtaking setting - that's why it's so disappointing to have your stay all but ruined by rude and incompetent staff and poor quality accomodations. This hotel does not deserve 4 stars.
