hello everyone, just wanted to share my experience on my 5 day at the empress hotel. at first glance, i was not "empressed" (pardon the pun) at all. it didn't look like a hotel i'd like to stay from the outside. but then, i realized no one stays there so it was nice after all, since it was quiet. the rooms were clean and were cleaned daily. the complimentary breakfast the next day was enjoyable (ham, eggs, salad) i just didnt expect they would serve the same thing over and over again - let's just say you wont miss ham and eggs when you get home. the best thing about the hotel (for me) is that they have free internet 24/7 at the lobby. its far from the city center and the mrt is 30 mins by walk better take the taxi but if your budget conscious then you could use the exercise. i just have one bad experience during my stay, it's because the people at the front desk don't understand you well, they misquoted the telephone calls i made, they said that a 3minute local call from my room would cost me 3-4NT which was not the case, on average i ended up paying around 40NT for a 5minute call and i made so many. so just be careful. better yet, use the pay phones outside.
